Program Overview


The Altadena Fresh Start Foundation is dedicated to fostering financial independence through structured education and support. The program serves 30 individuals per year in 6-month cohorts of 5 participants per month on a rotating basis.

Program Structure

Each cohort undergoes a 6-month curriculum covering financial literacy, investment strategies, credit-building, and debt management to ensure long-term financial stability.

Month 1: Financial Foundations
Understanding Money Management: Participants learn the basics of personal finance, including income, expenses, saving, and spending habits.
Budgeting Basics: Interactive sessions where participants create a personalized budget plan using financial tools and templates.
Goal Setting: Establishing short-term and long-term financial goals tailored to individual needs and aspirations.

Month 2: Credit & Debt Management
Understanding Credit Reports & Scores: Participants gain knowledge on how credit scores are calculated and how to maintain good credit health.
Debt Reduction Strategies: Reviewing different types of debts, creating repayment plans, and understanding interest rates.
Building & Repairing Credit: Learning techniques to improve credit scores and avoid common credit pitfalls.

Month 3: Saving & Investing
Emergency Fund & Savings Strategies: Teaching the importance of emergency funds and methods to save effectively.
Introduction to Investing: Basics of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and risk assessment.
Hands-on Investing Simulation: Participants practice investing in a simulated environment to understand risk management and market trends.

Month 4: Entrepreneurship & Wealth Building
Introduction to Business Ownership: Understanding business structures, registration, and startup funding.
Real Estate & Passive Income Strategies: Exploring rental properties, real estate investments, and creating passive income streams.
Scaling Business & Investment Portfolio: Strategies for expanding small businesses and diversifying financial portfolios.

Month 5: Financial Planning & Protection
Retirement & Long-Term Planning: Learning about 401(k)s, IRAs, and other retirement savings plans.
Insurance & Risk Management: Understanding the role of insurance in financial security.
Legal & Estate Planning: Basics of wills, trusts, and protecting assets for future generations.

Month 6: Graduation & Implementation
Wealth-Building Networking Event: Connecting participants with financial professionals and potential mentors.
Final Financial Review & Certification: Reviewing individual progress, setting final goals, and awarding certificates of completion.
Action Plan for Financial Independence: Each participant develops a customized financial roadmap to continue their journey beyond the program.
